Gabriella Montez is one of the most well-known characters in High School Musical. She 
came to East High in the middle of her junior year. She was always very smart and known as the genius girl. She won lots of different awards, and was always recognized at her school for her smarts. Gabriella was never sure if she was anything more than that, the school’s scholar.
Gabriella felt like there was something else to her than just being smart. She felt something in her heart trying to come out. In the first movie, she asks her friend Taylor, “Do you ever feel like there’s a whole other side of you just dying to come out?” Gabriella
clearly feels like there’s something about her that she just hasn’t figured out yet. Thanks to Troy Bolton, she’s able to discover that side of her.
In the beginning of High School Musical 1, Troy and Gabriella are forced to karaoke together. At first Gabriella is very hesitant and feels out of place. However, by the end of the song, she is very comfortable and is enjoying herself. Throughout the year, she and Tory practice for their musical. They sing in almost every break and really start to enjoy it.
That new interest in singing made Gabriella feel like she was a whole new person. She 
realized that she had found something, besides school, that she really enjoyed. She thought that her singing was a new way to express herself. She felt good doing it and it made her happy.
Through the next two High School Musicals, we see Gabriella embody the new person singing had made her. She realized that singing was one of her passions. Gabriella felt more confident and it was contagious. Everyone around her became more involved and had more fun because of what she learned about herself. Even though Gabriella didn’t have singing in her profession, she still found a new hobby and something that filled her with joy.
